A few years ago, I rescued a few cats from a family who threatened to tie them to a tree and leave them for the bears. They were only a year old. They were thin and very scared little cats. One of them, Tigger, my daughter purchased from me for the gas that it took for me to go get them. This brought our total of cats up to three.
It took a long time to get her cat to become a loving cat and not so scared to be around people. She is still skittish sometimes. In the past few months this two, almost three year old cat has been losing weight for no apparent reason. Today I found a hole in her side by her lung. It looked infected and had matted hair on top of it. I carefully peeled back the hair which fell of. As a result it left a hole that looked infected with something white in the middle. What scares me about it is that it is close to her lung. I'm afraid that it is more than we think and that is why she has been losing weight. I don't want to take her to the vet because we have already lost one cat (kitten) to cancer and I don't want that to be it.
As a result, we are looking for any other alternatives to keeping her safe. We cleaned the wound with peroxide and we are keeping a close eye on her. Our daughter is making sure that she is eating and drinking. At least she is doing that. For now, that is all we can do. We are going to be picking up some immune pills for her today as well.
Any advice would be very helpful. She is a great kitty and we would be so sad to lose her at such a young age.
Thanks in advance.

Turns out she had a worm in that wound. We were able to get it out and she is starting to gain weight again.
